ARCHITECTURE SLIDE 42

a picturesque gazebo

detail of cupola

Here we see an octagonal prism with an octagonal pyramid as the roof and a small version of the bottom shape as a cupola at the very top.

Structures such as this one are open and airy. They exude a charm reminiscent of years gone by. Notice the painted wood detail, known as "gingerbread", which wraps the whole way around the structure. Use of wooden spindles also adds to the Victorian charm of the piece.

The shingles on the roof are wooden shakes.
