Here we have a castle and the accompanying village as drawn by David MacAulay.

Notice the contrast in geometry between the village buildings, which are rectangular prisms with triangular prism roofs, and the castle which is cylindrical.

This visual distinction proved to always remind the people of their class in life. Circular buildings were for the wealthy.

Notice also the difference in building materials. The castle is made of stone while the village buildings of wood. Even today we see this material distinction. Stone and brick buildings are much more expensive to construct.
