Can YOU be a MYSTERY PATTERN FINDER?

The key is to look for repeating additions and subtractions.

TRY this:

Here is a sequence of numbers.  Can you see the pattern that
is being added?  What would come next?

3, 8, 13, 18, 23,...

The pattern is, we start at 3 and then keep adding
five after the first number.

3........8.......13.........18.........23,...
....+5.....+5........+5........+5

If I add 5 to the 23 the NEXT number would be 28.

Now let's examine this to unearth the PATTERN!

On the 3rd term (the 13),  how many times have we added 5?

(2 times)

On the 5th term (the 23), how many times have we added the 5?

(4 times)

On the 10th term, how many times will we have added 5?

(9 times)

On the n'th term, how many times will we have added 5?

(n-1 times)

What will the number be on the 10th day?

(3 + 5(9) ) = 48

What will the number be on the n'th day?

3+5(n-1)

Now try to figure these out and see if you can get 100% the first time.

1. What will the n'th term in this sequence look like? 5,12,19,26,33,...

2. What is the 100th term in this sequence? 1, 2.5, 4, 5.5,...

3. What is the n'th term in this sequence? 100, 91, 82, 73,...

4. What is the 213'th term in this sequence? 300, 285, 270, 255,...
